An Intimate Beach Wedding in Carlsbad

Mike and I headed down to Carlsbad a couple of weeks ago to photograph Michelle and Peter’s beach wedding. It was so intimate and sweet. Just the happy couple and 7 of the their closest family members and friends. The newlyweds had a wonderfully casual, fun going attitude and since there wasn’t a major timeline to stick to or 100s of guests waiting, we were able to get a lot more couple photos than we usually do. We also discovered that even a small wedding has its challenges. For instance, trying to stay unobtrusive and part of the crowd, a practice of wedding photojournalism. In this case, it was kind of hard for Mike & I not to stand out. Especially me, shooting with 2 cameras around my shoulders and a huge telephoto lens! :)

Check out the story of their day in our updated wedding gallery and more images in their slideshow.

This “peek-A-boo”image really shows how intimate and expressive the wedding was.

Hawaii isn’t the only place with gorgeous sunsets!

View from Above: Engagement Session in Santa Monica

Do you Southern Cal folks remember the crazy, windy weather that hit us over a week ago? Santa Monica beach could have been mistaken for a desert sandstorm and we have to give major kudos to the wonderful couple, Melissa and Brian, who braved just about all the elements for their engagement photos. They even treated us for a ride on the ferris wheel and we were able to get some awesome, colorful shots overlooking the pier & beach.

Despite the unexpected weather, we got so many great photos we couldn’t decide on our favorites, but we posted a few highlights below and don’t forget to check out the slideshow for more.

Images with soft, moody lighting and ones that evoke emotion are great candidates for texture and layer processing. It’s a fun, creative technique to experiment with now and then.

And of course, plenty of colors and fun..what Santa Monica Pier is known for!
