Michelle and Leo’s wedding day was truly a blast. The couple found us through her sister Lorie who had already referred two other weddings from their group of friends (including one of our first Hawaii weddings). It’s so neat to have cheerleaders like Lorie & Michelle rooting us on and helping out our business! Michelle, like her sister, is super outgoing and funny and she and Leo make a great pair. They had been together for ten years so everybody was in the party mood on this momentous occasion :-)

We started the getting ready pics at the SFO Hyatt where both Michelle and Leo were staying. After some shots of the gals, I headed back into the city with the guys to a park nearby their church. We noticed there was a play yard with a tire swing. The guys rushed over to it and Leo hopped on…and well…check out the picture below to see their shenanigans. The ceremony was full of emotion resulting in tears and smiles, and afterward the entire bridal party headed to the Embarcadero for photos. Honestly, these guys really lived up to the name bridal ‘party’. Every time Gina and I hear the song “Knock You Down” on the radio all we can think of is Michelle and Leo and their bridal party troop dancing, singing and downing cocktails on the limo bus. I don’t even think the happy couple sat down for more than a couple of minutes the entire ride!

Afterward their party continued with an elegant reception . We discovered Michelle’s family was full of talent. Not only do her and her sister have a talent for singing but her father’s band supplied the musical entertainment for most of the night. The true highlight was a surprise performance from Michelle to Leo, “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. Her voice had the whole crowd and Leo in awe. It was a wonderful moment to witness. Check out some of our favs below and catch the entire day in their SLIDESHOW for all the day’s events.

San Diego Engagement Photography

We met Abby and Tony last month in San Diego to photograph their engagement session. Though we love local engagement sessions, we were looking forward to going to Abby’s hometown to catch some cool shots in a different scene. The couple’s suggestion to shoot at Balboa Park was the perfect setting to kick off the session. It was filled with colorful florals, natural landscapes and classical architecture. We thought it would be nice to finish the session near Mike’s old college stomping grounds, on the cliffs at La Jolla, near UCSD. And with all the beautiful settings, Abby and Tony’s mix of playful laughs and intimate hugs added the perfect finish to the photos. They were pretty fearless, whether it was standing cliff-side or sitting in the mix of the jagged, thorny brush. Some of my favorite images came from the last few minutes of the session. When we first approached the area, the rugged hills and trees reminded me of a setting from a scene in the film ‘Out of Africa’. Honestly, one of the coolest things about this job is seeing a moment that you envision become art in a photograph.

Abby & Tony, we’re looking forward to capturing more great moments with you at your wedding this fall!
