Lauren and Kevin wed at Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn, a beautiful tropical resort on Shelter Island. In fact the island is referred to as San Diego’s Hawaiian Island and the couple’s tropical-themed wedding was a perfect fit.
It was a warm day with perfect blue skies, which was a nice break from all the June and July gloom. Lauren and her bridesmaids were all smiles as we captured the bride’s ‘getting ready’ pix. After Lauren got into her dress, Mike ventured off to see what the guys were doing and to no surprise they were already getting the party started with the help of the flasks that Kevin had given his groomsmen as gifts. Their outdoor ceremony took place in a gorgeous garden setting, accented with tropical florals and a trio of Hawaiian musicians played. As the couple saw each other for the first time during the procession, they were both smiling from ear to ear. It was clear to see how happy and excited they were to become man and wife.
The reception was held at the property’s outdoor concert area overlooking the marina and the tropical theme continued with vibrant Hawaiian florals and pink accents. Lauren and Kevin had a silly photo booth complete with crazy props and it was a big hit with their guests. After the first dance and some heartfelt speeches by family and friends, everyone danced the night away under the half moon…how appropriate

I photographed college sweethearts Naomi and Brandon’s wedding at the Happy Trails garden venue in Pasadena. Naomi was a a former co-worker of Mike’s and that is how she discovered our photography. The couple wanted to plan a wedding which fit their relaxed, laid back personalities. Their day couldn’t have fit that that description more perfectly. As I arrived to photograph bridal prep, Naomi was all smiles and hanging out with her maid of honor chatting and getting ‘all dolled up’ (she’s a natural beauty though so she didn’t need much makeup, lucky girl!) She picked a unique white flowing, strapless dress with just a bit of ruffle and lace…a beautiful choice for the garden setting.
Happy Trails has a beautiful, outdoorsy feel, with a huge camphor tree in the center so the couple opted to theme their invitations and favors around the book “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein. The couple shared an emotional vow exchange under the camphor tree, which was like a giant umbrella of flowing branches and green leaves. You could see the happiness and love they felt for each other and the golden sunlight behind them and bits of sun flare peaking through the leaves made for a dreamy setting.
The outdoor reception, lit by lanterns, twinkle light and candles started off with toasts by family members and friends of the couple. After dinner Naomi and Brandon enjoyed their first dance as husband and wife, kicking off the rest of the evening filled with dancing, fun and laughter.
